debian: Can't load OpenGL library

I'm on a debian sid box, with nvidia drivers installed, and it's loading glx in the x86free config.... yet i get this error

"could not open OpenGL library"

If glxinfo produces the error, a

$ ldd `which glxinfo`

can be useful (notice the backticks, they're not regular ticks)
