This is a hw questions that I couldn't find a clear answer for.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of integrating OpenGL and GLUT in a single library, while each still has a distinct design?????

Glut arent a part of opengl. its a library that are developed to ease the port of openglprograms between platforms, and not all needed to use opengl.. therefor they should be apart from eachother.
