Folks, I have a simple question. I'd like to compose some complex scenes in a modelling tool and somehow save it as the equivalent OpenGL code for an application. Like most, I don't want to spend a lot of money. The Blender to 3D Explorer route does not appear to get me there but that may be because I don't know the secret. I'm looking into Python scripts now (but I'm not sure that is what I want). I have gotten some good info from folks already but I wanted to know if anyone else knew a painless way to accomplish what I want.

Look on SourceForge. There are several modeling package projects there. I heard that the "PrettyPoly" modeler is good.

I've also run into quite a few free packages from either defunct companies or people's masters/PhD/hobbie projects that get mentioned on the www.OpenGL.org (http://www.OpenGL.org) news page. Search through the older news articles and you'll be sure to find a few free packages.
