I am using .raw files to make height maps in opengl. I have tried to make my own using photoshop but it seems that I'm not that good at it. Does anyone know a site where I can get some good grayscale height maps. Format doesnt really matter. -Thanks

I just finished putting up a few grayscale heightmaps... 256x256, 512x512, and 1024x1024 maps...
Enjoy.

Personally I like Terragen because it can generate heightmaps with many different filters. Maps can be saved in both color and grayscale. It can also output meshes created from these maps. It's a great tool, and free!
