GLUT for linux

I installed Mesa on linux machine
But don't know ,where to start
please help
Is GLUT needed

GLUT is not 'needed' as such. But it can be useful. If you are relying on cross platform code, use glut as it sets you window/context up for drawing on, independant of machine, well possibly not zx80's. Check nehe's site. Have a look at the sample code with the sdk, have a look on here, get the red book. Search the posts for the web address of it.
