I'm developing with an ATI Mobility 7500 in one system and an ATI 7000 in another. Even with updated drivers, neither one appears to support the WGL_ARB_buffer_region extension.

The ATI cards *do* appear to support the obsolete KTX_buffer_region, but I haven't been able to find the extension spec. Does anybody have a link for it? Is it much different from the ARB extension? I understand that it's badly defined, does anybody have an idea of what problems I could expect if I used it whenever the ARB extension isn't available?

You checked the WGL extension string, not the GL extension string, right?
Googled this http://www.west.net/~brittain/3dsmax2.htm

Thanks! The only hits I found were sites describing the ARB replacement for it.

(Actually, I ran glView (http://www.realtech-vr.com/glview/) first (nice tool), but then I checked the string myself as well:

"WGL_ARB_extensions_string WGL_ARB_make_current_read WGL_ARB_pbuffer WGL_ARB_pixel_format WGL_ARB_render_texture WGL_EXT_extensions_string WGL_EXT_swap_control "
