gldrawpixels and glpixelstore tutorial request

could anyone direct me to a good simple intro tutorial on using glpixelstore and gldrawpixels.

in addition a pointer to somewhere that lists the RGB layouts of windows bmp files in different bitdepths

any help appreciated
