optical mouse keeps double clicking

I've never had an optical mouse before and I noticed that most of the time it double clicks when you left click. It's causing a lot of aggrivation for me. I'm sure it's a setting I need to go in and change, but what baffles me is how it never did that with my other mouse I had.

Does it only do it some of the time? If so, it sounds like a hardware problem rather than a software setting to me.

I know that Razer Boomslangs often have this issue. I think a fix for them is to 'flex' the offending button by lifting the front of it up a bit, but you probably can't do that on an ordinary optical mouse.
