Detonators , OpenGL settings

hi all.. i have msi gf4 mx440 with 8x support but it works like tnt2 . i use the drivers that came with it and i don't know what detonator does exactly.. and all the opengl settings are on default whick combination is the best for quake,cs etc.
and last question; how can i activate 8x support?

Do you mean AGP 8x support ?
Your motherboard must support this acceleration , if it does ..enable it in the BIOS
