Here is the S3's statement about S3TC licensing. Could you add it to More Extensions section? Thanks, Kent -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To parties interested in S3TC (DXTn) licensing for use outside of DirectX: The license agreement between S3 and Microsoft allows Microsoft to license use of the S3TC (called DXTn in the Microsoft DirectX specification) data format, encoder, and decoder only as part of the DirectX API. It does not allow Microsoft to license the technology for other uses, such as use in an OpenGL ICD or in non-Windows operating systems or in non-PC platforms (i.e., set-top boxes, game consoles, etc.). For this reason, Microsoft is not able to handle licensing for these other uses, and companies wishing to incorporate the technology in these other ways, must request to license it directly from S3. S3 has invested a great deal of technical and marketing resources in developing and evangelizing this technology. For this reason, the company is very interested in seeing broad and quick adoption of the texture compression technology by the industry. We would like to work closely with any companies interested in the technology to move it forward by promoting further hardware support and evangelism. Interested parties should contact Rick Bergman, V.P. Marketing at 408/588-8044 for information on licensing. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
